BUFFALO NY - M&T Bank, which operates branch offices in Boyertown and Birdsboro, says it ranked first overall by the number of loans made under specific U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) programs across all territories during its just-ended Fiscal Year 2026.
The bank also reports it achieved "the highest SBA loan volume and dollar amount" in its history in the same categories. M&T also climbed to fifth nationally among SBA lenders, up from seventh in the previous year. In the greater Philadelphia (Eastern Pennsylvania) market, the bank ranked first in the number of loans it issued (304) and the total amount loaned ($29.6 million).
Its record performance “came amid a challenging national lending environment,” according to M&T. Industry-wide, SBA category loan volume declined 26%, and lending dollars fell 12%, year over year.
M&T's SBA performance “reflects the strength and consistency of its small business lending program,” it adds.
The bank’s “long-standing commitment to small businesses is about more than providing access to capital. It's about being a trusted partner to entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey," says Eric Feldstein, M&T Bank Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Retail and Business Banking.
"Our SBA lending leadership has been built on understanding our clients' goals, and working with them to find the right path forward ... We're proud to help entrepreneurs turn their ideas and ambitions into the businesses that strengthen our communities," Feldstein notes.
