WASHINGTON DC - A regional non-profit organization has received a substantial federal grant for veterans’ suicide prevention efforts in five southeastern Pennsylvania counties.
A $750,000 distribution from the federal Department of Veterans Affairs is being made available to the Veterans Multi-Service Center Inc. in Philadelphia. It will provide suicide prevention services during 2027 in Montgomery, Chester, Delaware, Bucks, and Philadelphia counties, the department says.
The funding is part of the department’s Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program. The named grant program honors Fox, who joined the Army in 2014, and served as a sniper instructor at the U.S. Army Infantry School. He died by suicide in 2020 at the age of 25.
Two other Pennsylvania organizations also were named as grant recipients. They are the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania Inc., which covers 27 counties in the state’s western region, and received $750,000; and the Penn Foundation Inc., which covers Carbon and Schuylkill counties, and received $475,000.
None of the Pennsylvania grant winners were identified as covering Berks County.
