UPPER HANOVER PA - Construction of the Church Road bridge in Upper Hanover Township, over a branch of the Perkiomen Creek, is now complete.
The 85-year-old bridge reopened to traffic Tuesday (Oct. 20, 2026), the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reports.
PennDOT fully replaced the former single-span, concrete slab bridge. The new structure, it says, is a precast concrete box culvert with a mounted guiderail. It also widened the road from 24 feet to 30 feet to meet lane, shoulder and bridge width requirements.
Additionally, Grace Industries performed full-depth reconstruction of the roadway approaches. It also replaced existing guiderail, and installed scour protection measures.
The work took roughly three months to finish. PennDOT closed the bridge in mid-July and its general contractor - Grace Industries Inc. of Northampton County PA - started about two weeks later.
The Church Road bridge replacement was part of an overall $2.7 million project. It also included replacement or repair of other structures in Montgomery and Bucks counties, PennDOT adds.
